Standing Committee on One Health

Standing Committee on One Health
The role of the Standing Committee on One Health (SCOH) is twofold: One Health & Veterinary Public Health. The committee aims to promote the importance of One Health and the interdisciplinary collaboration between vets and other One Health related scientists as well as awareness of the role of Veterinary Public Health. SCOH is important for IVSA and its members, as it broadens the collaborations of vets, spreads knowledge of veterinary public health, provides opportunities in this sector and promotes activity of the members within local and global projects.
Mission
Spread the One Health message to all veterinary students
Educate the general public about One Health
Create and maintain collaborations with other student organisations according to the interdisciplinary approach of One Health
Projects
Veterinary Public Health Journal
The Veterinary Public Health Journal (VPHJ) is a scientific journal where all students can publish One Health related articles. Each journal focuses on a specific topic to highlight current events and raise awareness on specific One Health issues. The VPHJ has been established in 2014 and there are already 15 issues of the journal published.
In the future, SCOH Publications Team is looking to work with other One Health Organisations and Partner Organisations to promote the journal and cooperate in creating articles and relevant educational information for the journal.
World Rabies Day
World Rabies Day takes place on September 28th every year. SCOH encourages students to raise awareness within their Member Organisations and the general public. The committee wants to motivate MOs and individuals to establish projects and events that will help educate people to join the fight against rabies.
All campaign entries will be promoted in the VPHJ as well as across the SCOH social media platforms.
One Health Day
One Health Day is a global event promoted by the One Health Commission organized to emphasize the importance of One Health. SCOH will be engaged in their event with a global contribution of our own, as well as encouraging participation from our local MOs.
Stop Tuberculosis Day
Every year collaborations between various global organizations work to promote different aspects of the importance of fighting against tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is still a dangerous disease, especially in matters of antimicrobial resistance. SCOH, together with partner organizations, creates a global campaign for collaborating organizations to participate in.
Antimicrobial Resistance
AMR is one of the hot topics in one health and the public health community. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has released another resolution and published a global action plan. The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), as well, will be releasing a new AMR campaign later this year.
IVSA feels the responsibility to contribute to this important issue. In collaboration with IPSF and IFMSA, we create a global campaign and encourage our local MOs to follow suit and set up their own local projects.
Food Safety Day
Healthy animals mean safer food. One of the main veterinarians’ work is to keep food safe. SCOH has begun creating awareness on food safety by establishing a new campaign at the World Food Safety Day, 7th June. New collaborations and partnerships are our goals for this year campaign.
